How to get the STL

If you're interested in using the Standard Template Library (STL) in its current, pre-approved form, you can get it by downloading it from an online service or by purchasing this month's Software Developer's Resource Disk. If you decide to download it electronically, you can choose any of several locations.

If you have access to CompuServe, download STL.ZIP from Library # at either the BCPPDOS (Borland C++ DOS) forum or the BCPPWIN (Borland C++ Windows) forum. The file size is 232,411 bytes, so you'll want to use a high-speed connectionif possibleto minimize your access-time charges.

If, instead, you have access to the Internet, you can download STL.ZIP by using anonymous File Transfer Protocol (FTP). The FTP host address is

butler.hpl.hp.com

and you'll find the STL.ZIP file in the STL subdirectory.

Once you've downloaded this archive, you'll need to decompress it by using either UNZIP.EXE or PKUNZIP.EXE. The archives contain 55 individual files, including all the files for the library, two PostScript files that you can use to print the STL documentation, and two README files that describe the history of the library.

If you decide to purchase the Software Developer's Resource Disk, you'll be able to extract the STL files from the archive for Borland C++ Developer's Journal. When you extract the contents of the BCDJ0495 archive, you'll find all the STL files in the directory \COBB\BCDJ0495\STL.
